A networker or connector will need to hone certain core skills if he or she is to become a great connector. Certain personal skills, communication skills and their attitude may well be keys to their networking success.
The great connector needs to keep in touch with his contacts. A monthly newsletter, birthday wish, Christmas card or similar holiday, an “ I just called to see how you are…”, or a call or e-mail to remind them of their anniversary date a week before will tell your contact that you care about them. There are many other ways that you can keep in touch. You need to use those that work for you and the results will generate
The ability of the great connector to really listen to his contact usually brings in rich rewards. Not only does his attention signify his interest in his contact and any problem that the contact may be experiencing but it also allows him to understand the particular problem and to then formulate an appropriate solution all while the contact continues to speak. The great connector continues to listen and controls the conversation by asking the questions with an expertise that guides him towards an expected conclusion. The more you practice this the better you will become at it.
